On the afternoon of June 20^th, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the Sichuan University – Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) celebrated its 2025 undergraduate commencement at the Auditorium on the Jiang’an South Campus of Sichuan University.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Changsheng Zhao, Vice President of Sichuan University, Wen Yuan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at Sichuan University, Jiawei Li, Deputy Director of Student Affairs at Sichuan University, along with institute leaders, faculty representatives, and parent representatives.

The event was co-hosted by the student counselor for Class of 2025 Mischa Zhang and graduate representative Hongyu Piao.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Dean Minking Chyu congratulated Class of 2025 on their achievements. He then reviewed the founding histories of world-renowned universities, noting their establishment during transformative eras by groups with steadfast conviction. While acknowledging current challenges, Dean Chyu affirmed SCUPI’s commitment to seizing diverse opportunities with a forward-looking vision by expanding international education partnerships and injecting new momentum into the institute’s global educational advancement.

Finally, he encouraged the graduates to carry forward SCUPI’s resilient spirit and dedicate themselves to contributing to the world.

Subsequently, Professor Changsheng Zhao, congratulated the graduates and expressed gratitude to teachers and parents.  Professor Zhao noted that SCUPI’s Class of 2025 boasts an overall advanced study/employment rate nearing 90%, with many students achieving excellence in international competitions and innovation initiatives, embodying SCUPI’s educational philosophy of “integrating Chinese and Western strengths, merging knowledge with practice.” He advised graduates to maintain an insatiable thirst for learning, remember the social responsibilities of engineers, use technological innovation to create human welfare, and forge brilliant futures with both the responsibility emblematic of Sichuan University graduates and the global perspective of SCUPIans.

Associate Professor Zheng Yang spoke as a representative of the professors. He congratulated the graduates and shared insights on lifelong learning, character, and the future. He emphasized that learning is a lifelong journey requiring sustained curiosity. Character development is paramount, upholding values like integrity. Qualities fostered by mathematics, for example, logical thinking, humility, perseverance, are vital for navigating the future. He encouraged graduates to believe in themselves and expressed anticipation for their achievements.

SCUPI alumni prepared a heartfelt video message for the graduates, offering congratulations, sharing advice based on their experiences, and extending sincere wishes.

Following the video, the awards and appointments segment commenced. Deputy Director Wen Yuan and Deputy Director Jiawei Li presented honorary certificates to 10 students recognized as “Outstanding Graduates of Sichuan Province.” SCUPI Associate Deans Kang Li, Wei Tang, and Assistant Dean Di Liu presented awards to 6 graduates for “Outstanding Graduation Projects.” Associate Dean Ye Li issued appointment certificates to 3 Class of 2025 Alumni Liaisons.

Amidst great anticipation, the degree conferral ceremony began. SCUPI professors conferred degrees upon graduates from the three majors: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.

Jingjie Wang, a graduating Industrial Engineering student, representing the Class of 2025, gave a speech. Drawing on his field, he likened his four years at SCUPI to a profound journey of learning to understand, deconstruct, and optimize life systems, reflecting on his personal growth and accomplishments. On behalf of other graduates, he expressed deep gratitude to SCUPI’s professors, faculty, families, friends, and classmates, concluding with wishes for bright futures and the creation of a warmer, better world.

To conclude the ceremony, all attendees watched a graduation video and participated in a joint chorus performance, singing farewell to their undergraduate years.

Following the chorus, student counselor Mischa Zhang reiterated her best wishes to the graduates and led them in expressing thanks to the university and institute leaders, faculty, family, and friends.
